Innovation Index

The Lead Innovation Index is a stock market benchmark of innovation in fashion and retail. The index tracks the performance of 12 hand-picked public companies carefully selected to represent forward-looking brands and retailers. The index showcases a range of businesses — from mass market to luxury, from US-centric to global players, and from traditional incumbents to new entrants. We believe that by mapping the progress of these companies through the index we can gauge the impact of new technologies, business models, and go-to-market strategies on the industry as a whole.

While there are many privately-held companies that are creating great value, public company stock performance is a readily-available indicator for determining which strategies are working.  The Lead Innovation Index is created to provide such a snapshot through publicly available data.

Fashioned after the Dow Jones, The Lead Innovation Index is a price-weighted average. Stocks with higher share prices are given greater weight in the index. So, move in a higher-priced stock will have a greater impact on the final calculated value regardless of the size of the company. We use a price-weighted methodology in order to provide a quick glimpse into the health of the sector.  The index is calculated weekly on Thursdays after the US markets close.

While The Lead Innovation Index is designed to be a barometer of all things innovation, it is provided for informational purposes only and is not intended to be a recommendation for trading, investing or anything of the sort.
